The transportation system in the United States is quite different from that in most other countries. Rail and bus systems are not as extensive and many living areas are more spread out. A large amount of Americans own cars, the most common form of transportation, but it is quite possible to live in Rochester without owning a car. For many people living on or near campus, the University shuttles and public bus system, in conjunction with a bicycle and the occasional borrowed vehicle, can get you anywhere you want to go around Rochester!
